in clinical practice, analysis has to be made to define which symptom is predominant, and then corresponding herb can be used as the principal one to ensure the good result. However, this formula is for lowering qi and resolving phlegm and aims at treating the “branch”of disease. When effective result is obtained after administration, the “root” of disease should be taken into consideration for treatment.

Today it is used for chronic bronchitis, bronchial asthma, pulmonary emphysema and other diseases manifested as the syndrome of phlegm accumulation and qi stagnation.
