This medicinal is the dried root of Morinda officinalis How(Fam.Rubiceae). It is harvested all year-round. After the removal of fibers, it is dried, and staved  for insolation. Also, after it is thoroughly macerated, or steamed, and its wood crelate is removed, it is sliced into pieces or stir-baked with salt water.

[ Medicinal Properties ]: Pungent, sweet, slightly warm; relate to kidney and liver meridians.

[ Medicinal Efficacies ]:Tonfiy kidney yang; strengthen tendons and bones; expel wind-damp.

[ Clinical Application ]: 1. Deficiency of kidney-yang with impotence, sterility due to cold-uterus, frequent urination      For impotence, sterility, it is combined with Yinyanghuo and Xianmao. In case of sterility, irregular menstruation and cold pain in the lower abdomen, due to deficiency cold in the lower energizer, it is used in combination with Rougui and Wuzhuyu, as in the  Baji Pill. ALso, in treating enuresis, it is combined with Sangpiaoxiao and Yizhiren.

2. Kdiney-deficiency, limpness in the knees and lumbus; lumbago and Bi-syndrome (arthralgia due to wind-damp)    It is especially able to treat deficiecy syndrome of kidney yang complicated by wind-dampness and is often prescribed with Roucongrou and Duzhong, as in the Jingang Pill. For lumbago due to wind-cold with difficulty in movement, it is combined with Qianghuo and Duzhong.

[ Usage and Dosage ]: 5-15g.

[ Precautions ]: It is not recomended for yin deficiency with effulgent fire or with internal-heat.

巴戟天为茜草科植物巴戟天Ｍorinda officinalis How.的根。主产于广东、广西、福建、江西，四川等地。全年均可采挖。去须根略晒，压扁晒干。用时润透或蒸过，除去木质心，切片或盐水炒用。
