This medicinal is the dried ripe fruit of Ziziphus jujube Mill.(Fam.Rhamnaceae). It is collected in autumn when the fruit is ripe and it is dried by sunlight. It is used in its unprocessed form.

[ Medicinal Properties ]: Sweet, warm; relate to spleen and stomach meridians.

[ Medicinal Efficacies ]: Tonify the middle and replenish qi; nourish blood and induce tranquilization.

[ Clinical Applications ]: 1. Spleen deficiency syndrome       For emaciation, lassitude, lack of strength, loose stool, it is used by itself. For that with severe lassitude and qi deficiency, it is combined with Renshen and Baizhu.

2. Sallowness due to blood deficiency ,hysteria       For sallowness due to blood deficiency, it is used in combination with Shudihuang and Danggui; for hysteria presenting as uncontrolled grieving, laughing or crying, with Xiaomai and Gancao, as in the Ganmai Dazao Decoction.

Furthermore, when it is used with drastic or poisonous medicinals, it has the function of protecting stomach qi and moderating their toxicities.

[ Usage and Dosage ]: 6-15g. Cleave first and then place into the decoction.

大枣为鼠李科植物枣Ziziphus jujuba Mill.的成熟果实。主产于河北、河南、山东等地。秋季果实成熟时采收，晒干，生用。
