 It is the dried mature peel of Zanthoxylum schinifolium Sieb. et Zucc. or Zanthoxylum bungenum Maxim., family Rutaceae. The medicinals which produced in Sichuan Province is the best, it is also called Chuang-jiao, Shu-jiao. The mature fruits are collected in autumn and dried in the sunshine, seed ,stem and other impurity must be removed. The raw or the stir-baked form can be utilized as a medicine.

[ Medicinal properties ]: Pungent in flavor, warm in nature; relate to the spleen, stomach and kidney meridians.

[ Medicinal Efficacies ]; Warm the middle energizer to relieve pain; kill worms to relieve itching.

[ Clinical Applications ]: 1. Syndrome of epigastric and abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea     In treating epigastric and abdominal pain due to deficency cold of spleen and stomach, it can be combined with Renshen, Ganjiang, such as in the formula Dajiangzhong Decoction; for diarrhea due to cold-dampness, it is used in combinatin with Cangzhu, Houpo, Chenpi.

2. Adbominal pain due to worms    In treating abdominal pain, cold hands and feet due to roundworm, it is often used in combination with Wumei, Huanglian, Ganjiang, such as in the formula Wumei Pill.

In addition, it has the fuction of killing worms to relieve itching, it can be used alone to treat for eczema, itching or used together with Kushen, Shechuangzi, Decocted for steaming and washing.

[ Usage and Dosage ]: 3-6g is used for oral use. Appropriate amount is used for external use, decocted for steaming and washing.

花椒为芸香科植物青椒Zanthoxylum schinifolium Sieb．et Zucc．或花椒Z． bungeanum Maxim．的干燥成熟果皮。我国大部分地区有分布，但以四川产者为佳，故又名川椒、蜀椒。秋季采收成熟果实，晒干，除去种子及杂质。生用或炒用。
