It is the dried bud of Tussilago farfara L.,family Compositae. It is dug and collected before it springs up from the soil in September or before the ground freezes. They are dried in shade with peduncle and mud removed. The raw or stir-baked with honey are used.
[ Medicinal Properties ]: Pungent , slightly bitter and warm; relate to lung meridian.
[ Medicinal Efficacies ]: Moisten lung, resolve phlegm and relieve cough.
[ Clinical Applications ]: Cough For cough of cold type, it is combined with Mahuang; for cough due to lung heat, with Sangbaipi and Gualou; for cough due to lug qi deficiency , with Renshen and Huangqi; for dry cough due to yin deficiency, with Shashen and Maidong; for prolonged cough with blood mixed in sputum and dyspnea, it is ground into powder with Baihe to make pills, such as Baihua Concentrated Decoction; for acute cough, it is combined with Xingren, Chuanbeimu and Zhimu in Kuandonghua Decoction.
[ Usage and Dosage ]: 5-9g. The raw are used to treat cough due to external contraction. The stir-baked with honey are used for cough due to internal damage.
款冬花为菊科植物款冬 Tussilago farlara L.的花蕾。主产于河南、甘肃、山西、陕西等地。12月或地冻前当花尚未出土时采挖,除去花梗,阴干,生用,或蜜炙用。
