It is the dried ripe fruit of Litchi chinensis Sonn, family Sapindaceae. The ripe fruits are collected in summer. With rind and pulp-like seed skin removed, they are dried in the sunshine. It is pounded or stir-baked with salty water for using.

[ Medicinal Properties ]: Sweet, slightly bitter and warm; relate to liver and kidney meridians.

[ Medicinal Efficacies ]: Soothe liver and dissipate stagnation; dispel cold and relieve pain.

[ Clinical Applications ]: 1. Cold type hernia with abdominal pain, swelling pain in testicle       It treats congealing cold and qi stagnation in liver meridian manifested as hernia pain and swelling pain in testicle, in combinatin with Wuzhuyu, Xiaohuixiang and Juhe, such as Shanqi Neixiao Pills. With Longdan, Zhizi and Chuanliannzi, it treats excess fire in liver meridian and down-pour of damp-heat manifested as reddish and swelling scrotum.

2. Epigastric pain     It is combined with Muxiang, in Lixiang Powder to treat stagnation of liver qi causing epigastric pain.

3. Dysmenorrhea or postpartum abdominal pain       It treats qi stagnation and blood stasis resulting in dysmenorrhea or postpartum abdominal pain, in combination with Xiangfu in Juantong Powder.

[ Usage and Dosage ]: 4.5-9g.

荔枝核为无患子科植物荔枝Litchi chinensis Sonn．的成熟种子。主产于福建、广东、广西等地。夏季采摘成熟果实，除去果皮及肉质假种皮，洗净，晒干。生用或盐水炙用。用时打碎。
