It is the dried ripe seed of the Euryaleferox Salisb., family Nymphaeaceae. Mature seeds can be collected at the ending of the autumn and early winter, after the seed vessel is taken out, the kernel is gained and then the hard crust is moved, dried in the sunshine. It is pound to pieces, and the raw or baked form is used as medicine.

[Medicinal Properties]: Sweet, astringent and neutral; relate to the spleen and kidney

[Medicinal Efficacies]: Benefit the kidney to preserve the essence; invigorate the spleen and relieve diarrhea; dispel dampness to relieve leucorrhea.

[Clinical Applications]:

1.           Nocturnal emission, spermatorrhea It can treat for kidney-deficiency, leading to essence not being consolidated, manifesting as aching

and flaccidity of loins and knees, nocturnal emission, spermatorrhoea, it is usually combined with Jingyingzi as mutual reinforcement, such as

in the formula Shuilu Erxian Dan.

2.           Prolonged diarrhea due to deficiency of the spleen For prolonged diarrhea due to deficiency of the spleen and accumulation of dampness, it is usually used together with Baizhu, Fuling.

3.           Leukorrhea It is the good medicinal for treating leukorrhea syndrome. For thin leucorrhea due to spleen and kidney deficiency,

it is often used with Dangshen and Baizhu. For leucorrhea due to damp-heat, it can be used with Huangbai, Cheqian, such as in the formula

Yihuang Decoction.

[Usage and Dosage]: 10-15g is used for oral use.

[Medicinal Comparison]:
[Similarities]: Qianshi and Lianzi have the same properties of sweet, astringent, neutral, relate to the spleen and kidney meridians; and

also have the function of benefiting the kidney to preserve the essence, invigorating the spleen and relieve diarrhea and leucorrhea. Its

indications are nocturnal emission and enuresis due to kidney deficiency, poor appetite and diarrhea due to spleen deficiency, leucorrhea

due to spleen and kidney deficiency.

[Differences]: But Qianshi not only has the function of benefiting the spleen and kidney to preserve, but also has the action of dispelling

dampness to relieve leucorrhea, as a commonly used medicinal for leukorrhea of deficiency and excess type.

Lianzi has the function of nourishing the heart and tranquilizing the mind, it is often used for palpitation, insomnia.

为睡莲科植物芡Euryale ferox Salisb．的成熟种仁。主产于湖南、江西、安徽、山东等地。秋末冬初采收成熟果实，除去果皮，取出种仁，再除去硬壳，晒干。捣碎生用或炒用。
