It is the mature seed of Vaccaria segetalis (Neck.)Garcke, family dianthus. The one produced in Xingtai, Heibei Province is of the best quality. The plants are cut during the summer when the fruit is mature, while the pericarp still not crazed. It is then dried in the sunshine, and the seeds are thrashed after the impurities are removed. It can be tuilized as medicine in its raw or stir-baked form.

[ Medicinal Properties ] :Bitter ,neutral; relate to liver and stomach meridians.

[ Medicinal Efficacies ]: Activate blood and open meridians; promote lactation and cure abscuss; relieve stranguria.

[ Clinical Applications ]: 1. Amenorrhea, dysmenorrheal, dystocia       For amenorrhea, dysmenorrheal, it is usually combined with Danggui, Chuangxiong and Xiangfu. For the treatment of dystocia, or retention of dead fetus, it is used together with Suanjiangcao, Wulingzhi and Liujinu.

2. Postpartum agalactia, breast abscess and swollen pain       To treat postpartum agalactia, it is used together with Chuanshanjia, as in the Yongquan Powder. To treat postpartum insufficiency of qi and blood and reduced lactation, it is used together with Huangqi and Danggui. while for breast abscess and swollen pain, it is combined with Pugongying, Xiakucao and Gualou, such as in recipes of treating acute mastitis, in collections of Materia Medica.

3. Heat stranguria, blood stranguria and urolithic stranguria       It is usually used together with Shigao, Qumai and Dongkuizi.

[ Usage and Dosage ]: 5-10g. The appropriate amount is used for external application.

[ Precautions ]: It must be used with great caution when treating pregnant women.

王不留行为石竹科植物麦蓝菜Vaccaria segetalis(Neck.)Garcke的成熟种子。全国各地均产，主产于江苏、河北、山东、辽宁、黑龙江等地，以产于河北邢台者质优。多为野生，亦有栽培。夏季果实成熟、果皮尚未开裂时采割植株，晒干，打下种子，除去杂质，晒干生用或炒用。
