[INDICATIONS]:Pulmonary abscess manifested by cough with stinking or pu­rulent sputum, mild fever and chest pain, squamous and dry skin in the area of chest and hypochondrium, red tongue with yellow greasy coating, slippery rapid pulse.

[ANALYSIS OF FORMULA]: This is a common formula for pulmonary ab­scess .Being sweet flavor and cold nature, reed rhizome is the main herb to clear a- way the lung-heat and is used as the key herb for pulmonary abscess. As the assis­tant herb, waxgourd seed can clear away heat, resolve phlegm, excrete dampness and drain pus. As the adjuvant and dispatcher herbs, peach kernel activates blood to resolve stasis and accumulation; coix seed clears the lung, drains pus and facili­tates diuresis to induce heat out through urine. This formula can be used in unripe pulmonary abscess to resolve it or in ripe pulmonary abscess to drain the pus.

In addition, this formula can be modified according to symptoms to treat bronchitis, pneumonia and whooping cough pertaining to the lung-heat.
