It is the dried plant of Agrimonia pilosa Ledeb., family Rosaceae. Collected during summer and autumn when the plants are flourishing, the impurities removed, dried in the sun, it is utilized in its raw or carbonized form.

[ Medicial Properties ]: Bitter, astringent, bland; relate to lung meridian.

[ Medicinal Efficacies ]: Stop bleeding by astringing; relieve dysentery and kill trichomonad.

[ Clinical Applications ]: 1. Bleeding      It could be used for bleedings due to both cold and heat syndromes since it is efficient in stopping bleeding and does not restrain pathogenic qi. For bleeding due to blood-heat, it can be used combined with Shengdihuang, Mudanpi , Cebaiye; for bleedig due to deficiency and cold, combined with Dangshen, Huangqi and Shudihuang.

2. Chronic dysentery, sores and carbuncles       It is especially efficient for chronic dysentery and that with blood stool, since it has the efficacies of astringing the intestine and stopping dysentery and diarrhea. It can be used alone or combined with Huanglian, Huangbai and Baitouwen. For sores and carbuncles , it can be decocted alone into plaster and mixed with honey for external application.

3. Trichomoniases        It can be decocted alone into thick decoction for washing.

[ Usage and Dosage ]: 6-12g. Appropriate amount for external application.

 仙鹤草为蔷薇科植物龙牙草Agrimonia pilosa Ledeb.的全草。主产于浙江、江苏、湖南、湖北等地。夏、秋二季茎叶茂盛时采割，除去杂质，晒干，生用或炒炭用。
