Blue-Purging Pills---xie qing wan

【INGREDIENTS】:Chinese angelica root， Borneol， Chuanxiong rhizome， Capejasmine fruit， Rhubarb， Notopterygium root， Ledebouriella root

(With equal dosage 3g of the above herbs.)

【DIRECTIONS】:Decoct the above herbs in water with some bamboo leaf，honey and granulated sugar for oral administration.

【EFFECTS】:Clearing the liver and purging fire.

【INDICATIONS】: Stagnation of the liver-fire manifested by insomnia and easy to be angry, conjunctival congestion with swelling eyelids, dark urine and consti­pation, forceful surging pulse; or infantile acute convulsion marked by high fever and spasm.

【ANALYSIS OF FORMULA】: Being extremely bitter flavor and cold gentian root as the main herb specially purges the excessive fire of the liver and gallblad­der. Rhubarb can purge heat to relieve constipation; capejasmine fruit can clear the triple-jzao and facilitate diuresis. They act as the asistant herb to induce heat out through urine and stool. As the adjuvant herbs, chuanxiong rhizome activates blood for dispersing wind and soothing the liver; Chinese angelica root nourishes blood for gentling the liver ； ledebouriella root and notopterygium root disperse the liver-wind and the stagnated fire;bamboo leaf clears the heart and facilitates diu­resis. Honey and granulated sugar are the dispatchers to harmonize all the compo­nents.
