 It is the dried tuber of Corydalis yanhusuo W.T. Wang, family Papaveraceae. It is collected at the beginnig of summer, after which the leaves and fibrous root are removed and it is washed clea. Then it is boiled in boiling water until it turns yellow inside and outside, then dried in the sunshine. It is pounded into pieces and utilized in its rawww, or prepared with vinegar, form.

[ Medicinal Properties ]: Pungent, bitter and warm; relate to liver, spleen and heart meridians.

[ Medicinal Efficacies ]: Activate blood; move qi; and relieve pain.

[ Clinical Applications ]: Stagnation of qi and blood stasis causing pain          For pains in the epigastric abdominal area, it can be taken orally, by itself or gournd into a powder and mixed with warm liquor. Also it treats the above problem when combined with Chuanlianzi, such as in the Jingliangzi Powder. In cases of abdominal pain during menstruation, it should be combined with Danggui, Chuanxiong and Xiangfu. If Bi-syndrome is causing painn in the chest, it should be used together with Gualou, Xiebai and Yujing. In cases of hypochondriac pain, it is usually combined with Qingpi and Xiangfu. For pain due to hernia , use it with Xiaohuixiang. In addition, for pain in the limbs or general pain due to blood-stasis, it is combined with Danggui, Guizhi and Chishao. To treat physical trauma, it should be combined with Danggui, Ruxiang and Moyao.

[ Usage and Dosage ]: 3-9g. 1.5-3g of the powder to be swallowed per time.

延胡索为罂粟科植物延胡索Corydalis yanhusuo W.T.Wang 的块根。主产于浙江、江苏、湖北、湖南等地。野生或栽培，夏初茎叶枯萎时采挖，除去须根，置沸水中煮至恰无白心时取出，晒干。切厚片或捣碎，生用；或醋炙用。
