This medicinal is the dried ripe seed of Dolichos lablab L.(Fam.Leguminosae). It is collected in autumn when the fruits have become ripe. It is dried by sunlight and used both in its raw and baked form.

[ Medicinal Properties ]: Sweet, slightly warm; relate to spleen and stomach meridians.

[ Medicinal Efficacies ]: Invigorate spleen and resolve dampness; harmonize the middle and dispel summer-heat.

[ Clinical Applications ]: 1. Spleen qi deficiency syndrome     To treat anorexia, loose stool or diarrhea, due to spleen deficiency with damp stagnation, it is used in combination with Renshen, Baizhu, as in the Shenling Baizhu Powder.

2. Syndrome of sumer-heat, vomiting and diarrhea      To treat vomiting and diarrhea, due summer-heat accompanied by damp, it is used in combination with Heye and Huashi. To treat yin summer-heat syndrome, which results from enjoying the cool and excessive intake of cold food with external attack by cold and internal injury by damp, it is used in combination with Xiangru and Houpo, as in the Xiangru Powder.

[ Usage and Dosage ]: 10-15 g. Baked, it has better effect on invigorating the spleen to stop diarrhea.

白扁豆为豆科植物扁豆Dolichos lablab L.的成熟种子。主产于江苏、河南、安徽等地。秋季果实成熟时采取，晒干，生用或炒用。
