This medicinal is the dried ripe fruit of Psoralea corylifolia L(Fam.Leguminosae). It is excavated when the fruits become ripe and dried by natural sunlight. It is utilized in its unprocessed, stir-baked, or stir-baked with salt water form.

[ Medicinal Properties ]: Bitter, pungent and warm; relate to kidney and spleen meridians.

[ Medicinal Efficacies ]: Warm and in invigorate kidney yangl improve qi reception and stop diarrhea.

[ Clicinal Applications ]: 1. Kidney deficiency syndrome, pain and cold sensation in knees and lumbus, spermatorrhea, enuresis and frequenturination     For impotence, it is prescribed with Tusizi and Chenxiang, as in the Buguzhi Pills; for pain in knees and lumbus with cold sensation due to declination of kidney yang with invasion by wind-cold, it is prescribed with Duzhong and Gutaorou as in the Qing's Pills; for spermtorrhea, it is combined with Buguzhi and Halite in the same dose, and ground into powder for oral administration. By itself, it is baked and processed into powder for swallows to treat children enuresis.

2.Cough and dyspnea due to deficiency cold   In this case, it is used in combination with Hutaorou and honey. For that due to consumptive disease, it is combined with Renshen and Muxiang.

3. Deficiency of spleen and kidney yang, diarrhea before dawn    In this case, it is used in combination with Roudoukou, Wuzhuyu and Wuzhuyu and Wuweizi, as in the Sishen Pills.

[ Usage and Dosage ]: 5-15g.

[ Precautions ]: It is warm and dry and has the effect to damage yin and promote fire. So it is contraindicated with yin deficiency with effulgent fire or constipation.

[ Side Effects ]: Renal disorders may occur after the rats being drenched with bakuchiol at the doses of 0.125, 0.25, 0.5 or 1.0. Large doses may cause progressive renal impairment.

补骨脂为豆科植物补骨脂Ｐsoralea corylifolia L．的成熟果实。主产于陕西、河南、山西、江西、安徽、广东、四川、云南等地。栽培或野生，以河南、四川等地较多。秋季果实成熟时采收，晒干。生用，炒或盐水炒用。
