It is the dried rhizome of Curcuma phaeocaulis Val.,Curcuma. Kwangsiensis S.G. Lee et C.F.Liang or Curcuma wenyujin Y.H. Chen et C.Ling, family Zingiberaceae. It is harvested and collected during winter, when the plant has withered. It is washed clean, steamed or boiled thoroughly, then it is dired, and cut into pieces, after the fibrous roots and impurities have been removed. The raw or the prepared with vinegar form is utilized as a medicine.
[ Medicinal Properties ]: Pungent, bitter and warm; relate to liver and spleen meridians.
[ Meidicinal Efficacies ]: Dissipate blood-stasis and move qi; eliminate stagnation and alleviate pain.
[ Clinical Applications ] : 1. Stagnation of qi and blood stasis For smenorrhea and abdominal pain caused by stagnation of qi and blood-stasis, it can be used together with Sanleng, Chuanxiong and Niuxi. While for stagnation of qi and blood-stasis causing mass, it is combined with Sanleng, Dangshen and Biejia.
2. Syndromes of food stagnancy and qi stagnation For stagnation of food and fullness and distention of epigastric abdomen, due to irregular diet and failure of spleen's traqnsportation and transformation, it is usually combined with Sanleng, Muxiang and Zhishi. For the above syndromes when accompanied by deficiency of spleen qi, it should be used together with medicinals that tonify qi and invigorate spleen.
[ Usage and Dosage ]: 6-9g. The prepared with Vinegar form can reinforce the action of alleviating pain.
[ Precautions ]: It is contraindicated in women with excessive menstruation, and pregnant women.
莪术为姜科植物蓬莪术Curcuma phaeocaulis Val.或温郁金C.wenyujin Y.H.Chenet C.Ling、广西莪术C.kwangsiensis S.lee et C.F.Liang的根茎。野生。蓬莪术主产于四川,广东、广西;温郁金又称温莪术,主产于浙江温州;广西莪术又称桂莪术,主产于广西。秋、冬两季茎叶枯萎后采挖。除去地上部分、须根、鳞叶,洗净蒸或煮至透心,晒干,切片生用或醋制用。
