 Jili is the dried ripened seed of Tribulus terrestris L., pertaining to Zygophyllaceae. It is collected in fall when it ripens. The above ground part is collected. After sun dried,the plant is threshed to coleect fruits which are ground to remove the thorn and impurities. It is used after stir-baked to yellow or stir-baked with salty solution.

[ Medicinal Properties ]: Pungent, bitter and slightly toxic; relate to liver meridian.

[ Medicinal Efficacies ]: Pacify liver, relieve depression; activate blood and dispel wind; improve vision, and stop itching.

[ Clinical Applications ]: 1. Hyperactivity of liver yang, dizziness and dizzy vision       Usually it is combined with Gouteng, Zhenzhumu and Juhua.

2. Distending pain in chest and hypochondrium and agalactia with distending pain      It treats distending pain in chest andhypochondrium, in  combination with Chaihu and Xiangfu. Also it treats agalactia with breast pain due to liver depression.

3. Reddish eyes and nebula     Jili is the most significant medicinal to dispel wind and improve vision. It usually treats reddish eyes, tearing and nebula due to wind heat, in combination with Juhua and Manjingzi.

4. Rubella, itching and vitiligo       It treats rubella an itching in combination with Fangfeng and Jinjie. Also by itself, it treats vitiligo after ground for oral administration.

[ Usage and DOsage ]: 6-9g. Also it is used in pill and powder, as well as for external administration.

[ Precautions ]: Be cautious for pregnant woman.

蒺藜为蒺藜科植物蒺藜Tribulus terrestris L.的果实。主产于河南、河北、山东、安徽等地。秋季果实成熟时采收。割下全株，晒干，打下果实，碾去硬刺，除去杂质。炒黄或盐炙用。
