It is the dried vine of Spatholobus suberectus Dunn, family Leguminosaae. It is collected during autumn and winter. After the leaves are removed, it is cut into pieces and dried in the sunshine. It can be utilized in its raw or steamed into paste form as a medeicine.
[ Medicinal Properties ]: Bitter, sweet and warm; relate to liver and kidney meridians.
[ Medicinal Efficacies ]: Promote blood circulation and tonify blood; soothe tendons and activate collaterals.
[ Clinical Application] : 1. Irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea and amenorrhea and postpartum abdominal pain It is especially efficacious to treat syndroms of blood deficiency, complicated by stasis. For example, for that with significant stasis, it could be combined with blood-activating and menstruation-regulating medicinals. While for that with greater deficiency, it should be combined with blood-nourishing and menstruation-regulatig medicinals.
2. Soreness, numbness and palsy of extremities and pain in the Bi-syndrome due to wind-damp It can be used combined with different medicinals which tonify the liver and kidney, strengthen the tendon and bones or dispel wind, activate blood and open the meridians, according to different syndromes.
[ Usage and Dosage ]: 9-15g. Large dosages can be utilized, as much as 30g. It can be taken orally, soaked in liquor or decocted into a paste.
