it is the dried rhizoma of alpinia officinarum Hance, family Zingiberaceae. The rhizoma for 4-6years growth can be dug and collected from the end of the summer to the beginning of the autumn. The fiber and remained squama are removed, it is cut into pieces and dried in the sunshine. The raw form is utilized for medicine.

[ Medicinal Properties ]: Pungent in the flavor, hot in nature; relate to the spleen and stomach meridians.

[ Medicinal Efficacies ]: Warming the middle energizer and relieve pain.

[ Clinical applications ]: Cold pain in epigastric abdomen, vomiting due to stomach cold      In treating cold pain in epigastric abdomen, diarrhea, it is usually used in combination with Paojiang, such as in the formula Erjiang Pill; for cold congealing and stagnation of qi, it is combined with Xiangfu, such as in the formula Liangfu Pill; for vomiting due to stomach cold, it is combined with Banxia, Shengjiang.

[ Usage and Dosage ]: 3-6g is used for oral use.

高良姜为姜科植物高良姜Alpinia officinarun Hance?的干燥根茎。主产于广东、广西、海南等地。夏末秋初采挖生长4~6年的根茎，除去地上茎、须根及残留鳞片，洗净，切段，晒干。生用。
