It is the dried tuberous root of Lindera aggregata( Sims) Kosterm, family Lauraceae. The tuberous roots can be collected all the year. After the fibrous roots are removed, they are sliced and dried in the sunshine. The raw or stir-baked with bran are used.

[ Medicinal Properties ]: Pungent and warm; relate to lung, spleen , kidney and urinary bladder meridians.

[ Medicinal Efficacies ]: Promote qi flow to relieve pain; warm kidney to disperse cold.

[ Clinical Applications ]: 1. Chest and abdomen pain syndromes      For stagnation of cold and qi causing chest oppression, hypochondriac pain, it is usually combined with Xiebai, Gualou and Yujin; for epigastric cold and pain, with Muxiang, Wuzhuyu and Zhiqiao; for hernia of cold type with abdominal pain, with Xiaohuixiang, Qinpi and Muxiag, such as Tiantai Wuyao Powder; for dysmenorrhea, usually with Danggui, xiangfu and Muxiang in Wuyao Powder.

2. Frequent urination and enuresis       For insufficiency of kindey-yang and deficiency-cold of urinary bladder causing frequent urination and enuresis, it is usually used with Yizhi and Shanyao such as Suoquan Pills.

[ Usage and Dosage ]: 3-9g.

乌药为樟科植物乌药Lindera aggregata (Sims) Kosterm．的块根。主产于浙江、安徽、江苏、陕西等地。全年均可采挖，除去细根，洗净，趁鲜切片，晒干。生用或麸炒用。
