 Xinyi is the dried bud of Magnolia biondii Pamp., Magnolia denudata Desr. or Magnolia sprengeri Pamp., pertaining to Magnoliaceae. It is collected at the end of winter and early spring when the flower begins to blossom. After the twig and stem are removed, it is dried in the shade.

[ Medicinal Properties ]: Pungent and warm; relate to lung and stomach meridians

[ Medicinal Efficacies ]: Dispel cold, release superficies; open nose.

[ Usage and Dosage]: 3-9g. For it has floss which is stimulant to throat, it is wrap decocted with gauze in the decoction.

[ Precautions ]: Avoid with yin deficiency and effulgent fire.

[ Clinical Applications ]: 1.wind-cold of exterior type    Xinyi treats external contraction of wind-cold, which manifests as aversion to cold, fever, headache and nasal congestion, in combination with Fangfeng , Baizhi and Xixin.

2. Sinusitis    It is the most essential medicinal to treat sinusitis, manifesting as headache, nasal congestion and nasal discharge. For that with wind-cold, it is in combination with Baizhi, Xixin and Cangerzi, such as in Cangerzi Powder, and for that with wind-heat, in combination with Bohe, Lianqiao and Huangqin.

辛夷一为木兰科植物望春花Magnolia biondii pamp.、玉兰Magnolia denudata Desr.或武当玉兰Magnolia sprengeri Pamp.的干燥花蕾。主产于河南、安徽、湖北、四川、陕西等省。玉兰多为庭园栽培。冬末春初花未开放时采收，除去枝梗，阴干入药用。
