It is the processed resin oozing from fruits of Daemonorops draco BL.,family Arecaceae. Impurities removed, it is smashed into granules or ground into powder for use.

[ Medicinal Properties ]: Sweet, salty and neutral; relate to heart and liver meridians.

[Medicinal Efficacies ]: Activate blood and relieve pain; stop bleeding and promote tissue regeneration.

[ Clinical Applications ]: 1. Blood stasis causing dysmenorrheal, amenorrhea, postpartum abbdominal pain and stabbing pain in the chest      To treat dysmenorrheal, amenorrhea, postpartum abdominal pain and stabbing pain in the chest due to blood-stasis, it is usally used together with Danggui, Chuanxiong and Honghua.

2. Trauma and swollen pain due to blood stasis      It is usually combined with Ruxiang, Moyao and Bingpian, for internal or external use.

3. Traumatic bleeding and chronic ulcerated carbuncles       For the former it is usually applied to the local area of wound and ground into powder together with Puhuang. While for the latter it is usually ground into powder with Ruxiang and Ercha, for external application.

[ Usage and Dosage ]: Ground into powder. 1-2g per administration. Also it is processed into pills or powder forms. The proper amount is used for external application, and it is scattered on the wound, or processed into plaster and placed on the wound.

血竭为棕榈科植物麒麟竭Daemonorops draco Bl.的果实及树干中渗出的树脂。主产于印度尼西亚、马来西亚、伊朗等国，我国的广东、台湾等地也有种植。多为栽培。秋季采收。采集果实，置蒸笼内蒸煮，使树脂渗出；或将树干砍破或钻以若干小孔，使树脂自然渗出，凝固而成。打碎研末用。
