This medicinal is the dried part(above the ground) of Epimedium brevicornum maxim, E.sagittatum Maxim, E.punescens Maxim, E.wushanense T.S.Ying or E.koreaum Nakai. It is collected in summer and autumn, when the stem and leaves are full bloom and it is dried by natural sunlight and cut into pieces. It is used in its unprocessed or stir-baked with sheep fat form.

[ Medicinal Properties ]: Pungent, sweet and warm; relate to kidney and liver meridians.

[ Medicinal Efficacies ]: Tonfiy kidney yang; strengthen tendons and bones; expel wind-damp.

[ Clinical Applications ]: 1. Declination of kidney yang, impotence, frequent urination, lumbar limpness     In this case, it is used in the form of wine infusion, by itself, for oral administration or it may be used in combination with Shudihuang and Baijitian.

2. Wind-cold-damp arthralgia, numbness in limbs      In this case, it is prescribed with Weilingxian, Chuanxiong and Rougui, as in the xianlingpi Powder.

Furthermore, it is effective for cough and dyspnea due to deficiency of kidney-yang and hypertension in women after menopause.

[ Usage and Dosage ]: 3-15g.

[ Precautions ]: It is not recommended for yin-deficiency with effflgent-fire.

淫羊藿为小檗科植物淫羊藿Ｅpimedium brevicornum Maxim.和箭叶淫羊藿E.sagittatum(S.et Z.)Maxim.或柔毛淫羊藿Ｅ．Pubescens Maxim.等的全草。主产于陕西、辽宁、山西、湖北、四川等地。夏秋茎叶茂盛时采收，割取地上部分，晒干，切碎。生用或以羊脂油炙用。
