This medicinal is the dried scale leaf of the pulpy bulb of Lilium lancifolium Thunb, Lilium. Brownii F. E.Brown var. viridulium Baker or L.pumilum DC.(Fam.Liliaceae).This plant is excavated in autumn. After being washen clean, its scale leaves are excavated ad slightly scalded in boiling water. It is then dried by natural sunlight. It can be utilized in its unprocessed or honey-baked form.

[ Medicinal Properties ]: Sweet, cold; relate to heart and lung meridians.

[ Medicinal Efficacies ]: Nourish yin and moisten lung; clear heart to induce tranquilization.

[ Clinical Applications ]: 1. Lung yin deficiency syndrome    In the treatment of lung yin deficiency with interior dryness and heat, manifesting as dry cough with little sputum, hemoptysis or dry throat with hoarse voice , it is often prescribed with Shengdihuang ad Xuanshen  such as in the Baihe Gujin Decoction.

2. Insomnia , palpitations, Lily disease     For insomnia, palpitations due to upward agitation of deficiency-heat, it is used in combination with Maidong, Suanzaoren and Danshen. To treat "Lily" disease, Presenting as trance, uncontrollable emotion, bitter in the mouth, brownish urine, faint and rapid pulse, it is prescribed with Shengdihuang and Zhimu, as in Baihe Dihuang Decoction.

Furthermore, it can nourish stomach yin and clear stomach heat. Thus, it is indicated for gastric pain, due to stomach yin deficieny with internal heat.

[ Usage and Dosage ]: 6-2g. It is more effective to moisten the lung in its honey processed form.

百合为百合科植物百合Lilium brownii F.E. Brown var. Viridulium Baker或细叶百合L. Pumilum DC.的肉质鳞叶。全国各地均产。以湖南、浙江产者为多。秋季采挖。洗净，剥取鳞叶，置沸水中略烫，干燥，生用或蜜炙用。
