 It is the carbonization of human hair. The hair collected, impurities removed, oil lyed out, it is washed with clean water, and dried in the sun. Then it is closed calcined for use.

[ Medicinal Properties ]: Bitter, astringent, neutral; elate to liver and stomach channels.

[ Medicinal Efficacies ]: Stop bleeding by astringing.

[ Clinical Applications ]: Bleeding      It has the same efficacy of stopping bleeding by astringing as Zonglutan, but it can stop bleeding without leaving stasis, for which it could be used for various bleedings of all parts of the body. It can be taken orally, or applied externally. When this medicinal is used to treat hemoptysis and hematemesis, it is usually combined with Sanqi or Huaruishi. For case of blood stranguria, it is combined with Puhuang, Fuling or Shengdihuang; In the treatment of hematochezia, it is usually combined with Huaihua or Diyu.

[ Usage and Dosage ]: 4.5-9g. 1.5-3g for ground powder.

血余炭为人发制成的炭化物。各地均有。收集头发，除去杂质，用碱水洗去油垢，清水漂净，晒干，焖煅成炭用。
